Every dollar raised will support the The Cherese Mari Laulhere Child Life Department at CHOC, which provides patients and their families with age-appropriate support to help minimize anxiety and help them
understand both diagnoses and medical treatments.

Comprehensive education and support services are at the heart of CHOC’s Child Life Department. This ranges from helping children prepare for surgery to supporting a patient’s siblings, from offering therapeutic play to providing grief education—just a few of the many ways that the team comforts and strengthens the whole family through the treatment process.

Staff members also help children understand their illness and treatment, and give them the means to cope with stays in the hospital. This comes in many creative forms such as music therapy, art therapy, resident dog and pet therapy, as well as entertainment from Seacrest Studios and more.

All the activities and efforts provide patients with memorable, oneof- a-kind experiences. Because CHOC is a nonprofit hospital, most of these programs are uncompensated by insurance, which means we rely on community support to give our patients the emotional and social support they need. From bedside playtime to group support activities and more, philanthropy allows us to encourage each patient and family to stay positive and engaged with the healing process.
